Mario Livio is an internationally known astrophysicist, a bestselling author, and a popular lecturer. He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Livio has published more than 400 scientific papers, on topics ranging from stellar explosions to black holes, and from cosmology to the solar system. During the past decade, his research focused on supernova explosions and their use in cosmology to determine the rate of expansion of the universe, and the nature of the “dark energy” that causes the cosmic expansion to accelerate. He also worked on extrasolar planets and the search for life in the universe. He was the curator of the STScI Science Blog between 2014 and 2015, together with Andrea Banzatti.
